What Customers Say About Sennheiser HD 485 Explore New Sound Dimensions in Headphones:

I got a pair for Christmas. I consider myself an audiophile with a pretty good set of ears.

took mine almost two weeks of use to show their true quality. Also the most comfortable headphones i have ever had T I listen to mostly jazz on these things so I can't say what harder edge stuff or the complicated sound stage of classical music might sound like.

The bass is smooth and tight, the mids are spot on perfect and the highs are a nice mellow. Be sure to let them WARE in.

These things are ridiculous. and they have worn in perfect.

My only con is that the detachable cord is too long and I wish that they would make a factory accessory cord thats you could buy separate thats shorter.

I think the HD 580s struck the right balance.Higher frequencies are more pronounced (and sound better) on the HD 580.The headphones are fairly light, weighing (sans cord) ~7.7 oz. Even at a moderate volume, the effect is pretty strong with bass heavy music, and at loud volumes is almost overbearing (try listening to Black Sabbath's Iron Man at a moderate to high volume with these. The cord strikes me as a bit cheap looking compared to the headphones. They're very comfortable, though my ears get a little warm after a while, even during these autumn months. So, these aren't the best headphones, but I suspect you already knew that. I wanted another set for another location, but wasn't willing to part with what something in the class of the HD 580s would run today (well over $200, it seems). After reading many reviews, I figured I'd give the HD 485s a shot. The HD 485 emphasizes bass more than does the HD 580, sometimes too much (though I'd rather have too much than too little). I say yes: these headphones offer a pretty good bang-for-the-buck should the caveats listed above not matter to you. You'll feel your head vibrate).

What you're more likely to be interested in is, are they worth the money. Where I'm coming from: I have a pair of Sennheiser HD 580s (purchased over ten years ago) which I love. If you like heavy bass, you'll love these headphones. The cord is attached to the left earpiece and is 3.5mm, but comes with a 6.5mm adapter which screws on for a tight/reliable fit.

Highly recommended. If you're looking for a pair of headphones that will give you a fantastic sound but feel that spending $300 is a bit insane, buy these. I've been very happy with this set of headphones. The sound is great and was a terrific value for the price. The sound quality is top notch and with the money you save you can buy yourself another toy.

however I soon realized They were extremely uneven sounding. If you've never bought an expensive pair of headphones you will be blown away. The bass and treble are still very strong but after a while you will learn to love the sound. It is significant though, so be forewarned. the mids (vocals, guitars, etc). Coming out of a good sounding source like a stereo system, upgraded computer sound card, or exceptionally good sounding mp3 player, they sound surreal.

Their uneven sound is the only con I can think of for them and it isn't a deal-breaker. It's easy to forget you are wearing them.Ending notes:The statement "Explore New Sound Dimentions" isn't an exaggeration. :)My experience with these headphones:When I first got these headphones I plugged them into my computer and was instantly impressed with the sound quality. After listening for a few hours they still sounded odd and I thought I had made a huge mistake buying them.

Be warned, you will not be able to go back to those $10 in-ear phones that came with your mp3 player. Even if you don't have a really good sound source, these headphones will bring your music to life. A week or two later I absolutely loved them. There are plenty of reviews already but I will write one anyway.

The bass was tremendous and there was also way too much treble. After "burning them in" the mids sounded perfectly fine. At least one other review says these headphones ARE even sounding, s/he/they are incorrect. These were my first great headphones and have inspired me to spend more money on quality audio than I ever thought I would.

I have had these headphones for over a year now and I thought I would contribute a review. were drowned out by the other frequencies. Great things about these headphones:-For $70 the sound quality and sound-stage is superb.-They sound mostly powered coming out of ANY source (you can plug them straight into a tiny mp3 player and they will sound great) (this is a real selling point for these headphones)-After the band loosens up they are extremely comfortable.

I usually stay under the $100 price mark, but I've had three pairs that were more expensive than the 485s, and all paled in comparison. they are pretty big, and the cord is flippin' long. They've never bothered me. Durability seems like it'll be good with these as well. I was a bit concerned that the high range would be too brassy and tinny as can often happen with open-ear headphones, but these project a very warm, deep sound overall. Good for home/desk use (especially since my computer is tucked as far away as I can get it), but bad for a Zune in the pocket.

I've tried more comfortable ones before, but there's nothing to really complain about here once you get them adjusted well. I wouldn't recommend these for portable use. The sound quality is better than I've had with headphones before. Bass is also a problem on many open-ear cans, but these have plenty.

9/10 overall. Overall I can't recommend these enough for the price. Some have complained that it's too much, but I couldn't disagree more. These Sennheisers have greatly impressed me, even after wearing them for hours at a time.

The bass is clean and deep, tones are intricate, and distortion is non-existent. Comfort is good, I'd say 8/10. I seem to break headbands often, probably because people come and bug me in my office so damn much, I'm constantly taking them on and off with one hand. They really sound remarkable (you'll want to show them off), they look like they are straight from Halo (the game), they seem like they'll last a good while, and they are cheap.

I work in game development, which means I sit at a desk for 8-12 hours a day with headphones on non-stop. This makes extended listening very pleasant. These are no worse for the wear, thanks to the thick headband.
